Danube

The Catholic Church Yard (Katolicka porta) is situated on the left of the church. It is a small paved square where once a small Catholic church was. It is so named because it is surrounded by Catholic buildings such as The Name of Mary Church and The Parish House of Vicarage. Today it is one of the most beautiful pedestrian city squares with a fountain and greenery.

Znaj Jovina Street, together with Dunavska Street, has historically been the centre of Novi Sad’s social, public and cultural life, and it still is to this day. Shopping and leisurely sitting with a coffee are the two most common activities here, as thousands of people stroll along these streets daily. The houses on these romantic, shop-laden streets were built in the 18th century, and famous writers, actors, tradesmen and nobles resided in this neighbourhood. On the corner of those two streets there is the oldest house in Novi Sad (the White Lion’s House). This is the busiest area of the city during the day and night.

Laze Teleckog Street is Novi Sad’s Soho, a street full of cafes, bars, nightclubs and restaurants, all situated in old residential buildings and houses. Find more on this street in the Nightlife section of this brochure.

The Dunavski Park, with its wealth of nature, is the urban eco oasis of Novi Sad, and of great importance to the city. Here you can relax surrounded by swans, weeping willow trees, and sculptures of noble persons and artists.
