Sopocani Monastery

Monastery Sopocani (Sopoćani) is an endowment of the Serbian King Stefan The First. The Sopcani frescoes are the most valuable part of it. According to general opinion, the Sopocani frescoes are not only the top of Serbian frescoes paintings, but in Byzantium too. The most famous Sopocani fresco is Dormition of Mother of God with 40 square metres decorated surface. Monastery was built in the 13th century, but Sopocani frescoes still shine with radiant beauty. UNESCO put it on the World Heritage List.
