Sargan's eight

Sargan's eight (Šarganska osmica) is one of the most attractive tourist-museum railways in Europe among the narrow gage railroads. It used to connect Belgrade with Sarajevo and Dubrovnik and it was build in 1925. The problem of 300 m difference in altitude between Mokra Gora and Sargan and the 3.5 km distance was solved in a unique, and only possible way – with an unusual railway line loop in yhe form of number 8.

The great significance of the museum complex is that the whole railroad with it stations and coaches is being authentically made, with preserved technical way of steam engine maneuvering. Wildnes, slalom through curves and tunels are adventure that recalls the almost forgotten of shaking in the train.

A special contribution to the promotion of Mokra Gora was made by famous Serbian film director Emir Kusturica who shot his film “Life is a  Miracle” there. Having built an ethno-village on the hill of Mecavnik, Emir became a resident of Mokra Gora.
